Ruth Law’s legacy with the Grand Ledge Public Library began in April 1968, when she joined as a part-time library assistant under Librarian Mary Scannell. What started as a summer position soon became a lifelong contribution to the heart of the library.

For more than 30 years, Ruth worked with care and dedication—processing and repairing thousands of books, many of which still fill the shelves she helped to build. With her artistic eye and steady hands, she became known not only for her meticulous craftsmanship but also for her warmth and generosity. Her homemade cookies were a hallmark of the holidays, and her kind spirit filled the library year-round.

Ruth’s diligence was unmatched. She took pride in completing every task thoroughly, preferring to see her “truck of books” clear before taking time off. On Monday mornings, she could always be found at the main desk—helping patrons, offering thoughtful suggestions, and sharing her vast knowledge of the collection she knew so well.

When she retired in 1999, the Library Board of Trustees passed a Resolution of Appreciation, recognizing her three decades of service and her lasting impact on the library’s quality and community spirit.

Those who worked alongside Ruth remember her as conscientious, creative, and kind—a true pillar of the library family. Her years of dedication left an indelible mark on Grand Ledge and on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
