How Does the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program Work?
It’s simple. Read a book to your newborn, infant, toddler or preschooler. Read another. And ten more. Read hundreds more. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (you can repeat books, don’t fret!) before your little one begins kindergarten.

Getting Started
- Print a 1000 Books Before Kindergarten reading log (Color-in log or list log)
- OR download the free reading log app on your smartphone and start reading.
Track Your Reading
Each time you read a book with your child, record it in your reading log or on the app.
Show Us Your Reading Log
Each time you and your child reach a reading milestone (each 100 books) bring in your reading log to any one of the following locations and get your sticker and book.

Why 1000 books?
The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes you can repeat books) before your precious one starts kindergarten.
Reading to preschool-age children builds vocabulary, language, and helps prepare them with the skills they need for Kindergarten. In as little as 15-20 minutes a day, families can prepare their little ones for future school and life success!
If a child reads for 20 minutes every day, they are exposed to about 1.8 million words of text!
