Re-opening GLADL

The Library is currently in PHASE 3, open for Curb, Outdoor Lockers, and In-building service!

Phase 1: Curb Service & Outdoor Lockers

Phase 2: In Building, Curb Service & Outdoor Lockers

Phase 3: In Building, Curb Service & Outdoor Lockers & limited in-person programming

We offer several ways to get library materials — Curb Service, Outdoor Locker Pickup, and In-Library Access.

In-Library Access is still at a limited capacity — Our capacity has been set by the Grand Ledge Fire Marshall at 45 people.

As per State and Health guidelines — patrons over 5 years old must wear masks unless medically unable to.  Please maintain social distancing by keeping 6 feet apart.

Programs/Games & Toys: The library does not have any of our puzzles or toys available in the Childrens area.  We are continuing our virtual programing and have begun some in-person Programming — some of this is outside or inside in small groups where we can provide enough social distancing.  Our Summer Reading Program is going strong and we encourage everyone to register and get reading!

When will Melcat be back in service?

MelCat will not be available to place requests until more than 85% of libraries are re-opened and ready to lend.

How do I access the internet?

Wifi: You can also park outside the building and access our WIFI.  Look for “GLADL-Public” in your internet connections.

Workstations: When we open for In-Library Access you will be able to use the computer workstations in the library.  They have been moved to provide more space between patrons.  We will be doing more cleaning between users as part of our best practices for library usage.

Hotspots: The library loans FREE mobile internet hotspots for 14 days.  Place a hold on one or call us at 517-627-7014 for availability and more information.

How do I return books and other materials?

Our bookdrop is open.  We will also have return bins available for use in the library.

Can I print, copy, or fax documents?

These services will be available in Phase 2 – Limited Opening on June 15.

Can I reserve the 1931 Room?

The 1931 Room cannot be reserved until after July 14 — 30 days after the library has been opened to the public.  All State and Health guidelines must be followed in regards to indoor social gatherings.

What is being done to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 at the Library?

Items will be sorted into 2 categories and handled accordingly:

  • Best Sellers/14-day items; High Demand DVDs/2 day DVDs – these items will be disinfected and checked for holds and made ready for immediate reuse.
  • General Fiction/Non-Fiction/General DVDs/All other items – these items will be quarantined for 72 hours.

Staff are wearing masks and are frequently washing/sanitizing their hands.  We are cleaning touch points and high traffic surfaces on a regular basis. While we can’t guarantee materials are 100% germ-free, we are following all state and local recommendations for libraries at this time to the very best of our knowledge and ability.

Our full COVID-19 Preparedness Plan  is available online.

Phase 4: Resume Services

By this phase we hope to have no occupancy restrictions on the Library, toys and puzzles back in the Childrens area, and in-person Programming happening once again.  Even at this stage we expect that there will still be health and safety guidelines that everyone will need to follow in order to stay healthy and safe.

There are simple things you can do to help keep yourself and others healthy.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Avoid handshakes.
  • Guidelines from the CDC — Use Face Coverings to Help Slow the Spread of COVID-19
